Stratford just happens to have very popular Canada Day celebrations. When Ash and Ian were small we would cart them off for an afternoon of hard core innocent fun, then at MacNeil Park. Nowadays all the fun takes place at Tea Hill Park. This year, for me, was especially meaningful.

Have you ever experienced singing “Oh Canada” while new Canadian citizens raised the flag? Believe me, it takes on a whole new meaning. Marcella, Sergio, Sharon and Brian are new Canadians from Argentina, and as they unravelled the lanyard to raise the flag, the words “with glowing hearts we see thee rise, our true north strong and free…” were heard and I couldn’t help but feel that we (Islanders and Canadians) are the luckiest people in the world.

How many other communities like Stratford stood and honoured (on Canada Day) all the energy that went into and continues to go into making our country so great… imagine…
